Re-write

If you are an aspiring lyricist one of the worst things that get you down about writing is yourself. You are your own worst critic! That's good...to a point. Be hard on yourself and push yourself to be better but never doubt yourself and don't be scared to write something crazy! A great tip I learned was to re-write everything. You may think the song is perfect, you can't believe you wrote such an amazing song. Put that song away for a week or two, or even a month. When you come back to read it, you'll find something you can fix.
I wrote the line: "Nothing you say will make the love real"

It's fine, but I think it could be better: "Words needed could never make love feel real"

As I type I still think of a new way to phrase it to make it jump off the page.
"The words you speak wont make our love real"

As I change that one line time after time it brings up new ideas for the next line. Soon I've come up with a whole song. If I re-write that song a few weeks later it will evolve into possible a new song, and than I'll have two songs. More ideas will flow from this.

Try writing one line. Read it a few times and thing of what else you could say in that one line. Change it. Do it two or 3 times. See if you can come up with the next line. Do the same for that line. In no time you'll have a great verse or chorus, or even a whole song.

I'll give you the first line: "Bent a little, never broken"
It's simple and yet will be easy to relate to. Re-write this line and add more to it. Show me how you got from one idea to the next and how this line evolves for you.
