I'm Back!

           

             School is officially out for the summer!
I haven't been posting due to school, obviously. I expect that to happen again toward the end of next semester.

I'm back, for now! 

Update: I'm not just writing lyrics anymore! I'm composing, I still have more to learn, but I'm very excited! As you've probably surmised from all the exclamation points! :-D

For those interested in music theory and not just writing lyrics check out this site...it's very straight forward and easy to understand. Also, this app is great for on the go learning...and this app was great for composing quickly.

My album title

            I'm finally putting music to my lyrics. I know I usually write about lyrics, but this is new to me so I'm excited. It's been slow going, but I'm working on the right music to two of my songs. There's really not much I can say about it yet, except I'm enjoying the key of B for one of my songs. I'm probably over analyzing each note and which note goes with which lyric.

Enough about music, let's talk about lyrics!

Words

When you're thinking of lyrics to a song you probably have tons of imagery and emotions floating through your head, and so many words to describe the images and feelings. Unfortunately, if you use every word that pops into your heard, or describe every image or feeling, it because anticlimactic. If you use to many large words, or any word too much, they begin to lose their meaning. That's why I always say re-write your songs. Think of the first song as a rough draft, read it over and tweak. If you repeat a word too much, find a way to reword the line. There or other word problems besides, big words and  repeating words.

Pardon My Tardiness

           I have been busy studying for my math class, which hasn't even started yet. I have had no time to write anything, including anything for this blog. I know, why am I studying for a class that hasn't started yet? Well, I'm trying to be proactive. Also, I have been able to finish the first four tests for the  class. A's for all of them! Not impressed? Well, I usually suck at math, so it's good I've been studying. 

I did finish another song. I've got the title of another song, I'll begin work on that after the first week of school. School starts tomorrow!

So, due to my new school and work schedule, I will be posting at least once a week, sometimes twice.

Steal for Creativity

I do not support stealing of any kind, I merely advocate being inspired.

I've been thinking about song titles before song lyrics, which usually helps me flow into the lyrics when I have a base to jump off of. I have a few titles lined up, I will probably only end up using a few of them. I got the song titles from listening to other songs.

No, I did not steal the titles, but as I was listening to the songs I would write down thoughts that I would get or phrases that would pop into my head because of the song, from that I would get a title.

Album Title

        I'm working on my first album, which I hope will be ready for recording by summer, and I'm undecided on whether I should have one of those fancy "self titled" albums or give in an actual name. If I do give it a name, should it be obscure and have nothing to do with any of my songs titles, or should it be the classic name-it-after-a-song-from-the-album albums?  These are questions that must be answered.

Music room

My husband and I have an extra room in our house that we do absolutely nothing with, except store things, so with our tax return this year we'll be creating an amazing music room. I will be doing my research on exactly what I'll need, like those foam egg crate things
